What is this site
This site is committed to current trends in understanding the genetics surrounding Hereditary Hemochromatosis - what it means to individuals, families and how to blaze our trail through the genetics that bring us together.
There are many great websites out there and I will list my favorites within these pages. (links here) My perspective will not be on just providing information. I will attempt to make the information as useful and personal as possible.
A very important site is the Center for Disease Control. Here you will find a link to a good brochure for an introduction to hemochromatosis and online training for more in depth information. If you find the terms confusing, perhaps my First Terms page will help. You may be surprised how many doctors are not current with what is even in the brochure. I discuss this more on my Doctors page.

This site attempts to stay current
This site was started in February of 2013 with the goal to be updated at least weekly. I read genetic research and trends in hereditary hemochromatosis as a hobby and plan to constantly share my reading and thoughts here. Much of the current trends will be discussed on the Cure and Controversy pages or on my Blog. I do have some older information out here that is found under Old Posts. This material can be rather raw and was collected from old posts of mine on Facebook. Most of it will be cleaned up, made current and posted on a web page in time.
If you are interested in reading medical research as a hobby too, Google Scholar is a good place to start.

I am not a doctor
I read a great deal on this topic and have strong opinions. Some of which will go against what doctors may tell you. I believe we must be informed health consumers, but nothing you read here should be considered medical advice. The mapping of the human genome put Genetic Hemochromatosis in the research limelight and it takes time for research to alter the approved training of medical professionals and then more time for those professionals to find and understand these changes. However, an informed patient can work with their doctors to ensure the best quality of care..
